Following a successful audit by Lloyd’s Register, Beck Prosper UK has successfully transitioned from the dual certification of ISO 14001/ 18001 to the replacement standard ISO 45001.
Introduced in March 2018 ISO 45001 is the international standard for occupational health and safety at work and looks to proactively improve employee safety, reduce risk and create a safer working environment whilst also promoting physical and mental health.
According to the International Labour Organisation more than 7,600 people die from work-related accidents or diseases every single day. That is why an ISO committee of occupational health and safety experts developed an international standard with the potential to save nearly 3 million lives each year.
The new regulations also control suppliers and contractors with consideration to health and safety even when not carried out under direct control on site. Beck Prosper has a duty to control processes and ensure that people are also safe when working on our products offsite.
OHSAS 18001 focused on controlling hazards whereas ISO 45001 encourages ‘risk-based thinking’ and a more proactive, flexible and preventative approach based on remedying a broader range of risks before they materialise.
Many thanks to John Thompson, Quality Manager, and Rachael Wood, HSE Coordinator, for their hard work and diligence in securing this successful transition.
